What is an OPGW splice box?
An OPGW splice box, also known as an OPGW splice closure or joint box, is a protective device used in the splicing of Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) in power transmission lines.

The OPGW splice box provides a secure and protective enclosure where the optical fibers of the OPGW are spliced together. This could be either when two sections of OPGW cable need to be joined, or when a repair needs to be made. The splice box ultimately ensures the splice point is well protected from the environment, thereby maintaining the integrity and performance of the optical fiber communication along the power transmission line.
Additionally, it provides space to store the extra length of fibers required for maintenance and repairs. They are usually designed to be sturdy and waterproof to withstand the harsh outdoor environment and electrical interferences from the power transmission lines.
